Man caught driving almost double the speed limit

Police caught a man speeding at 192km/h on the Nicosia to Larnaca motorway, where the speed limit is 100km/h, shortly after midnight.

The 20-year-old driver, a resident of Nicosia, was also over the legal alcohol level, with a test result showing 18μg instead of the 9μg allowed for drivers who have had a license for less than three years.

When police checked the man’s papers they found the car’s registration expired in December 2016.

He was arrested pending further investigations.

Just hours earlier, a 23-year-old man was jailed for 30 days because he was caught driving at 227km/h on the motorway on Saturday. He also had his license suspended for six months.
