Suspects arrested in arson death

POLICE have arrested three persons in connection with a fire that broke out in the early morning hours of Wednesday and which resulted in the death of a 39-year-old woman.

The first suspect has been named as Ibrahim Chalil, 32, from Syria.

He was taken into custody on Thursday in connection with a case involving manslaughter, breaking and entering, and arson.

Shortly before 3am on Wednesday someone torched a café /restaurant on the ground floor of a building on Costakis Pantelides street in Nicosia. The fires also caused an explosion.

The woman who died lived in an apartment on the first floor above the café.

Also under arrest are the owner of the café, as well as the driver of a motorcycle whom witnesses spotted speeding away from the scene.
