Separate stabbing incidents leave two injured, one serious

Two separate knife attacks on Tuesday left two men injured, one in serious condition.

One man was seriously injured when he was stabbed in the stomach with a knife on Tuesday in Nicosia.

Police were told at around 5pm that an injured man had been admitted to Nicosia general hospital.

The 33-year-old had been stabbed in the abdomen with a knife.

Investigations revealed he had been in the old town together with two friends.

At some point, he and one of the others started to fight and he was stabbed.

The attacker, a 48-year-old man, fled but was soon caught by police and arrested for attempted murder.

The suspect reportedly admitted that he wounded the 33-year-old who is in serious condition.

Police also arrested a man who allegedly attacked and wounded his neighbour in Pyla with a knife on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the 47-year-old man knocked at the door of his 72-year-old neighbour at around 5pm. When he opened he attacked him with a kitchen knife, police said.

The victim managed to disarm his attacker and threw the knife on the floor at which point the 47-year-old fled.

The injured man called police, and officers at the scene seized various items as evidence.

He was taken by ambulance to Larnaca general hospital and treated for injuries to his chest and head before being discharged.

His attacker was arrested a little later and is expected to be remanded in court on Wednesday.

Police say the two neighbours had previously been on good terms.
