Police seek woman who fleeced pensioner of €16,000 ‘for sick child’

Famagusta police are searching for a woman who persuaded an elderly man to give her €16,000 under false pretences.

According to police spokesperson, Andreas Constantinou the woman persuaded the pensioner, whose exact age was not provided, into lending her €16,000 so that she could pay her child’s medical expenses. She told him the child was suffering from a serious illness.

Upon receiving the money, the woman did not contact the man again.

The woman is thought to be around 20 years old.
