House collapses in heavy rain

The remains of the house after it collapsed

A mud brick house in Aradippou collapsed shortly after midnight because of rain which had accumulated for several days.

Nobody was injured but three cars parked outside the building were damaged. An electric cable was damaged but power was soon restored.

The owner’s son told police that he was sleeping at the time and woke up because he heard a sound.

He realised something was wrong with the building and left the house.

A few minutes later two of the walls and the roof collapsed.

According to the owner, the concrete floor cracked because of the accumulation of water and caused the house to collapse.
