Remand for two suspects over counterfeit dollars

Paphos court

The Paphos district court on Friday remanded two men aged 32 and 29 for six days in connection with the alleged possession of counterfeit money.

Initially, the police had arrested another 23-year-old man, the brother of the 32-year-old, though due to lack of evidence against him he was released.

According to the police, two complaints were received on Wednesday by employees of two banks, one in Paphos and the other in Peyia.

The employees reported that the 32-year-old exchanged four $100 banknotes in one bank and in the second bank two $100 notes, receiving a total of around €590.

From checks, the employees found that the dollar notes were counterfeit and reported the matter to the police.

All six $100 notes were kept as evidence by police.
