Songwriter Eustathia has written a new postmodern musical play that will be shared with the public on Friday.
Along with the Open University of Cyprus and Larnaca Municipality, Eustathia who has also been working as a theatrical writer over the last few years, presents her latest project The Turbulent Life of Ririka Schweitzer.
Joining the production is Greek Cypriot actress and soprano Elena Hadjiafxendi, who will take on the role of Ririka Schweizer, a heroine born in the late 19th century. In the meantime, and adding an element of storytelling to the play, Eustathia will join the actress on stage, narrating Ririka’s life through stories and arias from Greek operettas, songs from the interwar era and new compositions.
Ririka Schweitzer will set off on her long journey to make her dream of becoming a great vaudeville artist come true at a time difficult for women. Whether she will make it or not is uncertain, yet her story is said to captivate audiences. Emphasising following what your heart desires, the play is devoted to all that have a dream.
One phrase from the play summarises its content: “When our desires are not fulfilled, they become stagnant and repressed. And then our dark self occurs. But again, what we would do without dreams?”
