Two weeks after Nicosia’s latest gallery, of Contemporary Art-SPEL opened featuring work by one of the island’s greatest artists, Christophoros Savva, the opening events are far from over. While crowds have already passed through, not just to browse the works but to admire the newly-refurbished building, this week will see guided tours start for those who may have missed what is going on.
The tours start on Saturday in English and on the following Saturday (March 2) in Greek. But if you are part of an organized group, or just a bunch of friends, guided tours for over 20 people can be arranged by appointment during the gallery’s opening hours.
More events in March are set to follow. On March 9 there will be a guided tour by Polina Nicolaou on Christine Savva-Duroe’s archive, presented for the first time. The same tour will be repeated on March 23 in English.
On March 12, Achilleas Demetriades will hold a presentation on the subject of Artists’ Resale Rights in the Cyprus legal order. A few days later, on March 15, there will be a book presentation of Theoklis Kouyialis – Christoforos Savva, with a dialogue by Dr Eleni S Nikita, art historian and writer and Costas Vasiliou, philologist, poet and critic as well as a poem reading by actor Neophytos Neophytou.
