Nine communities from Vasiliko plan roadblock over tardy works

The nine communities surrounding the Vasiliko area have decided to step up measures in protest against roadworks long overdue for completion that are being carried out on the old Nicosia-Limassol road near the Choirokoitia exit, and warn of a road block next week should their call not be heard.

In a press release issued by the coordinating committee of the nine communities, which consist of those of Zygi, Mari, Kalavasos, Tochni, Psematismenos, Maroni, Choirokoitia, Pentakomos, and Asgata, the committee said that concerns were expressed over the danger caused by ongoing road works on the old Nicosia-Limassol road by the water development department.

The committee decided to send a letter to the ministers of agriculture, interior, and transport, to protest against the situation which is causing disquiet among the affected communities.

This coming Wednesday, the committee said its members would be blocking the Choirokoitia exit on the Nicosia-Limassol highway, if by this time efforts were not underway to fully complete the road works in view of restoring the road to its previous condition.
