Armed men arrested in large police operation

Police arrested two armed men in Limassol on Monday morning as the result of a large police operation.

After receiving information that two people in possession of a weapon were in a Yermasogia hotel room police officers took immediate action, head of the Limassol CID Ioannis Soteriades said.

“Immediately the area was cordoned off, and given the fact they were armed, the special anti-terrorist unit was summoned, which arrived at 8.30 in the morning and in cooperation with other police departments entered the premises with a search warrant,” he explained.

A pistol plus 18 cartridges were found in possession of the two men who were arrested.

They were taken to a Limassol police station to be questioned.

Asked to comment on whether one of them was wanted in the north for criminal activities while the other was involved in a burglary in Limassol, Soteriades said these claims will be investigated.
