Asparagus seized at Ayios Dhometios crossing

Customs seized a total of 435 bundles of asparagus on Monday morning at the Ayios Dhometios checkpoint hidden in the trunk, between the seats and next to the engine of a car.

The illegally imported asparagus and the vehicle, which is registered in the north, were seized by the customs department.

The director of the department accepted an out-of-court settlement for €400. The Turkish Cypriot driver paid the sum and an additional €200 for the return of his car.

While he got the car back, customs kept the wild asparagus.
