For theatre lovers a platform with a bit of a difference is coming up. The 2nd National Monodrama Showcase takes place at the end of the week with performances in Greek that are worth watching to discover the work of local creators.
After an open call with an overwhelming response, seven performances have been chosen to be shown in a three-day showcase. Cypriot directors will present their work for the first time as Rialto Theatre’s stage will host six female monologues and ‘An Eleni’ on March 1, 2 and 3.
Opening the series at 7pm is The Whore Upstairs with Medea Hanna, directed by Agis Paikos, while at 8.30pm Yiannis Minou will present his La Poupee with actress Andrie Hadjichristodoulou.
On the second night, Rialto will host three performances starting with Letters to Tennessee directed by Anthoulis Dimosthenous and played by Yola Kleitos. Following, will be Carmen directed by Natalia Panayiotou and based on Prosper Merrie’s homonymous novel. March 2 will close with That Time, directed and performed by Marina Makri, inspired by Samuel Brecht.
For the first performance of the Monodrama Showcase’s last day, Monica Meleki with dancer Roza Maria Pantzi and vocalist Venera Meleki will present Lady Lazarus Reinvented. And finally, Eleni Volume IV with Marios Ioannou and directed by Achim Wieland will close the three days of performances.
