Debenhams Olympia to remain open until 2020

Ermes Group announced on Thursday that the Debenhams Olympia department store in Limassol will continue to function as normal until 2020.

Earlier in the week, media reports claimed that the store would soon be demolished to make way for the tallest high-rise of the island, Aura, which will tower over Limassol at a height of 197m, boasting 137 apartments across 45 floors.

The Aura high rise has been designed by the international UK-based architectural firm Foster + Partners to appear to be seemingly suspended in the air, as the first 24 floors are empty, consisting of grand columns holding up the structure.

While reports claimed that the demolition of the Debenhams Olympia building and the subsequent initiation of construction works for the Aura high rise would begin within 2019, Ermes Group clarified on Thursday that the department store will be fully operational until 2020.
