More rain expected despite sunny start

More rain is expected until Tuesday because of an unstable air mass which is affecting the area although the weather looked fine and sunny on Monday morning.

Clouds will gather at noon and in the afternoon local rains or even storms are expected. Snow or sleet may fall in the mountains.

Meanwhile temperatures are forecast to rise to around 18C and 7C higher up in the mountains, about average for this time of the year.

The same pattern is expected on Tuesday, when the sky will initially be clear but in the afternoon there will be showers.

On Wednesday and Thursday, clouds will gather in the afternoons but the weather will be mostly sunny, and temperatures are predicted to be above average.

In the morning, the height of the snow on Troodos square stood at 53 centimetres and police warned that the roads in the higher mountains are slippery.
