This weekend is bound to be an eventful one, with the carnival just around the corner and festivities popping up left, right and centre. The celebrations are set to continue early next week as Green Monday arrives, marking the official start of the Easter fasting period.
After two days of partying and the heavy meat consumption that goes down on Tsiknopempti, the veggie cleansing of Green Monday comes to save the day. Beware, though, not to overdo it with bread and sugar (or indeed the fish dishes which are also permissible), and to fill your picnic basket with vegetables and greens.
If you’re out of ideas about where to go, what to do this year, or simply want to try out something different, a special Green Monday-themed event is on at Athalassa Park in Nicosia. Organised games for old and young and a rich buffet will be the highlights of the day. And, given this season’s heavy rainfall, the park is sure to be as green as can be.
Alongside the available food feast – which will be sticking to Cypriot tradition serving octopus, potatoes, beetroot, olives, dips and so on – local agricultural products will be on sale.
To attend the event, call 97-741064 to confirm your place. Children over 12 and adults will pay €10, six-to-11-year olds €8, and young ones under five can attend for free.
