A 16-year-old boy, a Limassol resident, was caught on Wednesday driving a stolen vehicle under the influence of drugs.
According to the police the 16-year-old, while driving along the Skarinou to Lefkara road towards Lefkara, lost control of the vehicle that veered off course and fell in a concrete ditch at the side of the street.
The teenager was not injured but the car was extensively damaged.
Members of the Lefkara police who went to the scene gave the teen a breathalyser test which came out negative, but his narcotest was positive.
The vehicle is registered to a person from Limassol who lives permanently abroad.
The teen admitted that he broke into a neighbouring house in Limassol whose owner was abroad and stole the car keys.
Inside the vehicle police found and confiscated as evidence a number of pieces of jewellery and €120.
The teen was taken to the Lefkara police station where it was discovered an arrest warrant was pending against him for cases of break ins and theft.
One case involves a break-in on January 29, when the 16-year-old is believed to have stolen €100 while causing €750 worth of damage to the premises.
The teen was arrested under the warrant while he was also charged for driving without a driver’s licence, insurance, and without the consent of the owner of the vehicle and while it was immobilised.
