Police officer arrested in connection with theft

Limassol police on Sunday arrested one of their own on suspicion of stealing from a wallet that a member of the public had found and handed over to the authorities to be returned to the owner.

The 51-year-old police officer was questioned and released to be charged at a later date, police said.

The alleged theft took place in Limassol on Friday after someone handed to police a wallet containing cash, which they had found.

Some of the cash went missing later and suspicion fell on the suspect.

The case is being investigated by the force’s internal affairs service.
