There’s no doubt that we live in a highly visual world, with the likes of Instagram, video and animation taking over. It’s all about less text and more graphics for the modern ways of consumption and production. With this in mind the Graphic Stories Cyprus conference will be held this coming weekend.
From Friday to Sunday, lectures, book presentations, an exhibition, workshops and a documentary screening will take place, inviting all creative professionals in the field of visual communication and applied or visual arts to take part.
More specifically, the conference is directed towards graphic designers, web designers, illustrators, photographers, animators, 2D/3D designers, typographers, creative agencies, advertisers, marketers and those who are interested in getting to know the profession of visual communication designer.
As a conference on Graphic Design and Visual Communication, it aims for the cultivation of arts education and the development of critical perception about modern graphic arts, both on a local and on an international level. What you can expect are lectures from 10 distinguished local and international professionals in the field covering a wide range of Visual Communication issues, highlighting the present and exploring its future. The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation is set to welcome lecturers and the public on Friday for a full day of knowledge exchange.
Saturday will kick off with three specialised workshops for professionals and higher education students addressing logo and tattoo design with calligraphy, handmade natural tools for calligraphy, digital painting and a children’s cartoon workshop.
Following these sessions will be a screening of Konstantinos Kambouroglou’s documentary on the story of the well-known designer Stergios Delialis and the legendary Design Museum of Thessaloniki.
On the last day of the conference, the three workshops will continue while throughout the weekend a themed exhibition will run parallel to the rest of the activities. Graphic Design, Challenging the Perception will include 50 artworks from the third international poster contest organised by Graphic Stories Cyprus.
The exhibition will be hosted by the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and will also include the artwork of 16 invited creators. A total of 820 artists from 27 countries all over the world took part in the contest including Cypriot designers, visual communication higher education students as well as high school students. The inauguration of the exhibition, as well as the award ceremony for the winners, will take place on Friday after the completion of the scheduled lectures.
Selected by the European Festivals Association (EFA) as one of the best festivals in Europe, Graphic Stories Cyprus 2019 sounds promising with a lot to offer to aficionados in the field. It has also been awarded Europe’s quality stamp, EFFE Label for 2019-2020, which honours remarkable art festivals that show their commitment to the arts, community involvement and international reach.
