Police on Tuesday seized around 16 kilos of cocaine that was sent from overseas using a courier company and arrested a 25-year-old man who showed up to collect it in Larnaca.

The bust followed a tip from a European country that two packets containing drugs would be arriving in Cyprus on Tuesday, drug squad chief Stelios Sergides said.

After their arrival, police took control and waited for the recipient to show up at the carrier company’s office in Larnaca to pick them up.

The suspect noticed the officers and tried to flee the scene but he was caught following a short chase.

Two private vehicles and one police car were hit in the process.

The suspect is expected to be brought before court on Wednesday.
