Brits eat 12,000 tonnes of halloumi a year

Cyprus has been battling on two fronts to protect halloumi, in the EU and the UK

Britons consume over 12,000 tonnes of halloumi cheese a year, the British High Commission said in a tweet on Saturday.

The High Commission added the UK is main port of arrival for halloumi exports.

On Friday, the High Commission said in a post on social media that even in the case of a no-deal Brexit there would still be no tariff on halloumi imports.

“We know that this would be warmly welcomed by Cypriot exporters as well as British consumers,” the High Commission said.
