What is poetry?

Have you ever wondered what poetry is? There isn’t one answer and there isn’t a right or a wrong. This is what Cultural Centre Phaneromenis 70 and writer/poet Michalis Mavrotheris wish to bring up in their upcoming events. In light of World Poetry Day on Thursday, the two are inviting the public to answer “what is poetry?” through an open workshop and an evening of poetry.

The open poetry workshop is a drop-in, drop-out ‘workshop’ at Phaneromenis 70 running from Monday to Saturday where the public can visit the space and answer the question in anything between one word or a thousand. At the end of the open invitation, the responses are going to be collected and edited into a volume by Mavrotheris.

With this in mind, an Open Mic Night will be held on Saturday during which anyone can read whatever they like. The evening will also pay special tribute to the art magazine Havra Zine which is a printed collection of free speech and visuals, boasting broad creativity and expression.
