Five years have already passed since the opening of the AG Leventis Gallery which has enriched the island’s art scene not only with exhibitions but creative educational programmes as well and much, much more. In celebration of its birthday, the gallery will put on a theatrical performance every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting March 26 called A Picasso.
Written by Jeffrey Hatcher, directed by Andreas Araouzos and translated by Varnavas Kyriazis, who plays Picasso, A Picasso also stars Niovi Charalambous in the role of Fischer.
The story is set in Paris of 1941. Pablo Picasso has been called by the German occupation to a basement for interrogation. Miss Fischer is a cultural follower in Berlin with a mission to find out which of the Picasso three paintings that the Nazis have recently seized from their Jewish owners are real. The propaganda ministry has scheduled a report and only the great painter can certify their authenticity. Soon, however, the real picture will become clear in Picasso’s eyes and will put the artist into a scary dilemma.
