Remand for suspect in church theft (Updated)

A 32-year-old was remanded for four days by the Limassol district court on Saturday after he was arrested on grounds of stealing a church donation box.

The 32-year-old was spotted by a police patrol wandering suspiciously next to a car parked at the side of a Limassol road just after midnight.

Officers approached the 32-year-old, finding next to the car a church donation box that had been broken into.

Searching the car, on the passenger seat police found the broken safety lock of the donation box and burglary tools.

The 32-year-old was also found to be in the possession of a 1.3g of cannabis.

In addition to the charges relating to the theft of the donation box and the possession of drugs, the 32-year-old also faces a traffic offence charge as the parked car was registered as immobilised with the department of road transport.
