Highway turned into racetrack as two stopped for extreme speed

File photo

Two drivers racing along the Nicosia to Limassol highway were stopped on Sunday morning by police near Psmatismenos, just an hour apart from each other.

At 10.50 members of the traffic police stopped a driver heading for Limassol who was moving at a speed of 185km/h rather than the allowed 100. The driver was 19.

One hour later, a 26-year-old driver who was speeding at 180km/h was stopped going in the direction of Nicosia.

Both drivers were arrested, taken to a police station and charged in writing to be taken to court at a later date.
