Death in central prison appears to be heart attack

A 51-year-old man being held at the central prisons died on Tuesday noon from what appears to be a cardiac arrest, an announcement by the central prisons said.

“Despite having previously had an ECG, that did not show any acute symptoms according to medical staff, he nevertheless lost consciousness a while later,” the announcement said.

First aid was immediately administered by central prisons medical staff, who also attempted to resuscitate the 51-year-old through the use of a defibrillator.

He was then transferred to the Nicosia general hospital, where his death was confirmed. A postmortem has been scheduled.
