Nicosia municipality said on Tuesday it would be taking part in Earth Hour on March 30 by extinguishing the lights in the town hall between 8.30pm and 9.30pm that night.

Many organisations and government services take part in the annual event.

Nicosia municipality invited all of its residents to put their lights out for Earth Hour and this year to also try to reduce plastic waste, particularly by taking their own mugs and glasses when going out for a coffee “which

strengthens the effort to reduce the consumption of plastic and paper cups in cafeterias and elsewhere”, it said.

“Earth Hour is a message of hope and action. Every action is important and together we can achieve the goal,” it added
