The met office issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms, hail and heavy rainfall between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
The warning covers the period between 7pm on Friday and 4pm on Saturday.
It said that thunderstorms associated with hail are expected to affect the island, while precipitation may exceed 35 millimetres per hour.
On Saturday the weather is to be cloudy with isolated rain and isolated storms with the possibility of hail. Snowfall is not ruled out in the mountain areas.
The temperature is expected to reach 16C inland and the coastal areas and 6C in the higher mountains.
The same weather patterns are expected on Sunday. A slight temperature increase is expected on Monday and Tuesday but will remain under seasonal average.
