Limassol police on Friday evening arrested 18 young persons, 15 of which minors, in two separate incidents, who were causing public disturbance around bonfires in church yards.

At around 10.15pm, police officers located a bonfire in the grounds of a church in Yermasoyia and arrested four young people – a 15-year-old, two 17-year-olds and a 19-year-old.

Just after midnight 14 young people – most of them aged 16 and 17 and two 18-year-olds – who were around another bonfire in the grounds of a church in Zakaki were arrested.

They were all charged – the minors in the presence of their parents – and released. They are to present in court at a later stage.
