Cypriot gymnast Marios Georgiou won bronze on Friday at the European Championship being held in Szczecin, Poland, winning the island its first medal at the competition.
Georgiou, 21, came in third scoring 84.398 points, behind Russians Nikita Nagornyy and Artur Dalaloyan.
Following his victory, his coach Panayiotis Petrides said: “For both of us it a dream that came true, and for Cyprus it is a historic moment.”
Marios received congratulatory messages from the Cyprus Sports Organisation as well, which said that he was ‘the best ambassador for our small country.’
The Cyprus Olympic Committee and the Limassol-based team Apollonas, where Marios is from also congratulated him and his coach for the medal.
