High levels of dust recorded

High levels of dust have been reported in the atmosphere on Sunday, especially on the east coast, the labour inspection department said.

According to the department, due to the high level of small particles, sensitive groups (the old, the young and those with chronic health problems) have been advised to stay indoors.

At noon the levels of dust recorded were 55μg/m3 in Nicosia, 95 in Limassol, 76 in Larnaca, 55 in Paphos, 233 in Paralimni, 71 in Zygi and 43 in Xyliatos.

The measurements refer to particles that are smaller than 10μm (PM10). The safe level for PM10 is considered to be 50μg/m3.
