Man arrested for repeat thefts from car park

A 49-year-old man from the Paphos region was arrested on Saturday night in connection with the theft of items from cars parked at Tzelifos bridge in the Ayios Nikolaos area of Paphos.

According to the police on Sunday, officers from Kelokedara has placed the parking area under surveillance where theft and damage to cars had been reported.

At around 1.50 on Saturday afternoon an unknown person was noticed checking out parked cars, who then broke the window of one car and stole a woman’s handbag from inside.

When police approached the man he got into his own car and sped off, only to be intercepted by a police patrol car.

A check of the man’s car found a ladies handbag which contained a mobile phone, purse and other personal items that were later recognised by their rightful owner.

A knife and a screwdriver were also found in the 49-year-old’s car.

Arrest warrants were also issued against him for 12 other cases of damage to and theft from cars between the period of January 27 and April 13.
