With the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones underway, having premiered on Sunday night in the US, one of the biggest attractions at this year’s Cyprus Comic Con is likely to be Ross Mullan who plays White Walker in chief.
White Walkers are inhuman beings with mystic powers who fight humans. They are described as having “flesh made of something like brittle ice” by Insider Entertainment News.
Comic Con is expecting a record 17,000 visitors this weekend, and with the final season of Game of Thrones underway , Mullan is set to be a big attraction for Cypriot fans of the TV show.
“He is playing the big villain and is really scary,” one Cypriot fan said. “Most people wouldn’t recognise him without make-up and CGI [Computer-generated imaging] but still it will be fantastic to meet the actor behind the famous character.”
The coming weekend is a chance to find out more about the actor and the part. Mullan will have a booth for signing and selfies, and will appear in a one-hour GoT-themed panel.
On both days a workshop will be held per day, according to the official website of the event giving “a glimpse on how to become a creature specialist.” The website goes on to explain what contributed to his success in the role.
“His impressive height 193cm and his sword fighting skills were definitely an advantage for Mullan in terms of landing the part, but he had to undertake five months of horse-riding training in order to prepare himself for the role. However, the most challenging part was the fact that the ‘White Walker’ did not have any dialogue or lines so Mullan had to bring to life the character through his posture and movements.”
Another special guest who plays a character in the series, Eugene Simon – better known as Lancel Lannister – will also be at this year’s event.
Both will be available to have their photo taken with fans on Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 4pm. Autographs are available for €15.
This is not the first time Game of Thrones actors have come to Cyprus for a Comic Con event.
Three years ago, Mltos Yerolemou aka Syrio Forel, the show’s ultimate sword fighting water dancer met local fans; and 2017 brought Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, The Mountain himself.
