I’m not running

As English-language plays are a rarity in Cyprus an upcoming screening may interest stage fans. Coming live from the National Theatre, I’m Not Running is set to be screened on Wednesday at Rialto Theatre.

Returning to the NT Live series after his production of Skylight, Academy-Award-winning writer David Hare presents an explosive new political drama exploring personal choices and their public consequences.

The storyline follows Pauline Gibson, a junior doctor, who becomes the face of a campaign to save her local hospital. She’s thrust from angel of the National Health Service (NHS), to becoming an independent Member of Parliament. In the Houses of Parliament she crosses paths with her university boyfriend Jack Gould, a stalwart Labour loyalist climbing the ranks of the party. As media and public pressure mounts on Pauline to run for leadership of the Labour party she faces an agonising decision.

Lead actress Sian Brooke is known for portraying Eurus Holmes in the Sherlock TV series, and she will be joined by Joshua McGuire, who has performed with the NT Live before, and Alex Hassell well-known for his participation in the Two Down film.
