Outdoor singing with a holistic approach is at the core of a singing camp this July, in its first edition and the only one of its kind.
Going by the name S for Singing, this week-long summer camp promises to be an alternative voice approach featuring workshops and one-to-one lessons for people interested in singing who are seeking a different angle to voice lessons.
Set at the rustic Antony’s Garden House in Episkopi, there will definitely be a lot going on from July 1 to 7. Learning vocal technique, breathing, expression to posture and stage movement will fall within the week’s agenda along with the YogaYourVoice practice. This is a vocal technique combining simple yoga postures with vocal vibrations.
The pianist who will be accompanying the participants, Annini Tsiouti explained: “The days will be organised in working sessions shared among three teachers. Group sessions of vocal warm-up, YogaYourVoice, Prevention of Injuries, Kinesiology, Movement direction and others will be combined with one on one vocal lessons and rehearsals with the pianist. Group rehearsals in preparation of the final concert will close the daily sessions.”
So, voice coach Gina Poulou, choreographer, therapist and injury-prevention researcher Nefeli Tsiouti and pianist Annini Tsiouti will lead participants in a week of song concluding with a final performance open to the public. The concert will take form according to participants’ profiles and preferences though special emphasis will be given to the preparation of group pieces.
Organised by recently-founded company Melpoussa, that’s active in Greece and Cyprus in the domain of cultural events, S for Singing has launched an open call inviting interested participants to register.
“The call for participation is quite open and unrestrictive; we, therefore, expect to receive people from various backgrounds, with different degrees of vocal and musical proficiency. This is an important factor, which the three teachers have taken into account when preparing the workshops, and which will contribute to the summer camp’s alternative character, enriching qualities, and hopefully, its success.”
To sing your heart out, register and send a €100 deposit (or €150 to include accommodation) by May 15. To receive the registration form, email [email protected] or call 96-353713. The remaining amount can be given at a later date though keep in mind that deposits will not be refunded for cancellations after May 30.
