Forest protection week kicks off

The forest protection week for this year will start on May 17 and end on May 23, the forestry department said on Wednesday.

A large-scale firefighting exercise will be part of the week, and plans for combating a major forest fire will be tested, using aircraft, firefighting equipment and personnel of the forestry department and other services and the British bases.

A series of other events and activities have also been planned in an effort to raise awareness of the importance of forests and stressing the need for everybody to protect them from fires.
