A concert for peace and dialogue

Rialto has been busy celebrating its 20th anniversary and there’s still a couple of events to go. A music and poetry evening will be held on Sunday and musical performances are planned for May 21, 23 and 29. But it’s not just music. E. Ionesco’s emblematic work The Killing Game will be staged on May 28 by ETHAL.

The events will culminate with the concert for peace and dialogue on May 30, a collaboration of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation and the Rialto Theatre, happening under the auspices of President Nicos Anastasiades.

“There is probably no musical work more befitting a celebration of the ideas of peace and dialogue than Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony,” say the organisers. “A musical masterpiece that came to represent the monumental and sublime, the Ninth has inspired the idea of universal brotherhood in billions of individuals among nations.”

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, four national and international soloists, and four esteemed choirs, under the direction of Jens Georg Bachmann, join forces to send an impassioned message. “Join us and sing along to ‘Ode to Joy’ in an exalted effort to honour peace and dialogue,” say the team.
