Man killed on construction site

A 55-year-old man was killed on Monday after falling some 13 metres into an elevator shaft while working at a construction site in Limassol.

The accident happened in the afternoon at a department store site in the Kato Polemidia area.

The worker was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Labour office inspectors and the police are investigating the circumstances of the accident though it appeared the man had been working without taking any safety measures.

The labour office suspended further work at the site until safety measures were put in place.
