Tourist remanded after assault on compatriot (Updated)

A 25-year-old British man suspected of assaulting another Briton, 26, was remanded for six days on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old is in serious condition in hospital.

At around 8pm on Tuesday, police received the information that a tourist was badly injured during a fight in the Famagusta district and had been taken to Famagusta general hospital by ambulance.

The man, who was diagnosed with multiple head injuries, was allegedly assaulted by the 25-year-old with whom he is on holiday in Cyprus. According to testimonies, the attacker hit his victim repeatedly on the head.

Due to the severity of his injuries, the 26-year-old tourist was taken to Nicosia hospital where he is being treated in the intensive care unit.

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested under a warrant at 11pm.
