Technopolis 20 reopens garden for the summer

The music and culture hub Technopolis 20 is getting ready for a busy summer season and has already released its agenda for June, which is dressed with jazzy tunes. Those concerts will be performed in the venue’s cosy garden, where an official opening is set to take place.

Technopolis 20 welcomes the summer and its outdoor music concert sessions with the newly founded Fusionia Quartet on Sunday, June 2. The first event of the Cultural Centre in the garden will host four excellent musicians, all members of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, on their second appearance as a quartet.

Fusionia Quartet came together to synthesise over time any worthy idea of fusion between the classical string quartet repertory and other styles in mixed programme concerts, using their original compositions and arrangements, creating a unique style that represents the musical spirit of the 21st Century.

The quartet consists of the violinist and temporary member of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Marios Ioannou, member of the second violins of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Savvas Lagou, member of the first violins of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Sorin Horlea on viola and the principal cellist of the Orchestra Jakub Otčenášek.

The four musicians will present the String Quartet no 2 op. 13 by F. Mendelssohn and the premiere of the Cypriot Suite, arranged by the Fusionia Quartet. Yet this concert is only the classical edition of the garden opening. A jazz edition will be held as well with a performance by the Ioannis Vafeas Trio featuring Dimitris Papadopoulos on June 9.

This concert will also launch the Summer Jazz Music Concert Series at Technopolis 20 by three artists who have been performing at important festivals and concert halls in their homeland and around the world for many years.

This time, the trio meets the Greek trumpet soloist Dimitris Papadopoulos on stage and they are promising an exciting, interesting and full of energy night. Papadopoulos is a member of the Athens Big Band and one of the most active members of the Greek Jazz Scene.
