Fight against drugs a top concern says police chief

Kypros Michaelides (CNA)

Combatting drugs remains one of the top priorities for the police, chief Kypros Michaelides said on Wednesday night.

Speaking at a gathering on the subject organised by the drug squad, Michaelides said that in 2019 the police had confiscated around 131kg of cannabis, 56kg of cannabis resin (hash), and 32kg of cocaine.

Michaelides noted that the gathering was important so that the police could broaden its methods of communication through direct dialogue.

“We want to exchange thoughts and opinions around the phenomenon of addiction, with the hope that through a productive discussion with civil society, we may be in a position to better understand what it is we want as a society and what the direction should be,” Michaelides said.
