Police arrest knife-wielding would-be robber

Nicosia police on Thursday arrested 30-year-old man after he allegedly tried to rob two places at knifepoint late in the evening.

Police said the suspect allegedly entered the yard of a home in Lakatamia at 11.30pm and threatened the owner, demanding money. Unphazed, the homeowner shouted back at the man that he would call the police, prompting him to flee.

Shortly afterwards, the suspect entered an establishment and again threated those present with the knife, asking for money. He was told they had no money and the man fled the place, police said.

Police arrived on the scene just when the suspect was trying to escape and they managed to detain him.
