Events to welcome in September

With August dominated by parties and Greek music concerts, September is set to begin with a greater variety of events, including plays, operas and festival openings.

Kypria Festival 2019 will open on September 1 with performances running around Nicosia’s old town. First at 6pm at Ledras and Onasagorou streets, then a music parade at Phaneromeni Square setting off at 8pm, with a final performance at Eleftheria Square half an hour later. Kypria performances will continue into October in various cities.

The Pafos Aphrodite Festival, running from August 30 to September 1, will hold an opera and ballet performance of Macbeth at the Medieval Castle of Paphos in a production by the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of Belarus.

In Limassol, a play will be on after a quiet summer season for theatre. Erevos, in Greek, written and directed by Valentina Fedonos, tells the story of an insecure bulimic, a guy who’s afraid of loneliness, a guy who refuses to talk, a narcissistic father, a subservient mother and their suppressed son, who all die. They are now trapped in a dystopian place ruled by Erevos and Id, two odd creatures. Fedonos’ dark comedy tells a story about emotional constipation. The play will be held at Pattihio Theatre for one day only.

Still in a party mood, Guaba Beach Bar will welcome one of the biggest icons in the electronic industry Paul Van Dyk. The Grammy-nominated artist, globally acclaimed DJ and audio architect continues to dominate the electronic music charts and appears at the pinnacle of every Top DJ list around the globe.
