After a summer break for August, the annual Cultural Festival the University of Cyprus organises returns to Axiothea Mansion in Old Nicosia with more performances. Having been running for 22 years, the second part of the programme, full of musical and theatrical performances mainly from Greece and Cyprus, is getting ready to take over in early September.
Opening this second half is a concert on September 3 with folklore music traditions from the East. The concert will be held by Prosanatolismos workshop for Eastern Music, which was founded in 2016 by Christodoulos Mnasonos for the purpose of studying and promoting the melodic multimodal idioms related to the music of Cyprus.
The University of Cyprus Theater Workshop (Thepak) will present Kornaros’ Erotokritos on September 5, and Café Balkan will hold a concert September 9. On September 12 another concert will be held, this one in honour of Solonas Michaelides, 40 years after his death. Thepak will stage more productions on September 19, 20, 24 and 26.
The Youth Center Panagia Sumela will present the music and dance performance The Harp’s Gololoklaman on September 29 and the following day Portuguese fad Claudia Madur will give a concert. More performances are set to follow in October.
