A vibrant watercolour exhibition has been going on in Nicosia this week with Maria Charalambidou’s artwork My World in Colour at LK Gallery and today is the last chance to glimpse of it.
Maria has been painting all her life but only started attending classes three years ago, when she finally had some more free time. Working with her teacher, Kyriakos Lyras, she further developed her work and sense as an artist. In fact, the pieces present in her current exhibition have been in the works for two years.
“My main themes are nature (the countryside),” told us Maria, “including trees, animals, the sea and so on but I also painted ballet dancers and scenes from towns and villages.” Vibrant images with rich colour are what stands out in her work, as the title of the exhibition suggests. “I use a lot of colour because I believe that colour attracts the eye and creates a feeling of optimism and happiness.”
