Coronavirus: Angelides tests negative (Updated)

Defence Minister Savvas Angelides

Defence Minister Savvas Angelides has tested negative for Covid-19, the ministry reported on Tuesday.

The minister was tested for the virus as a precaution after a national guard officer tested positive on Monday. He had had no close contact with the officer and had already placed himself in self isolation.

The officer had returned from Greece before the country was included in category 2.

His contacts are already being tracked.

Regarding the confirmed case at a military camp, defence ministry spokesman Christos Pieris said it concerns a military officer at a Stavrovouni camp, adding that the test results for another suspected case in a different camp are expected today.

According to the spokesman, the contact tracing process is underway as well as disinfection of the premises.

The defence ministry will also be disinfected because one of the cases was identified there.
