Coronavirus: Stricter measures at Limassol hospital pending contact tracing

Limassol general hospital

Health authorities decided Friday to step up measures at Limassol general hospital following the detection in recent days of five coronavirus cases among staff.

The cases concern four hospital workers and a medical student from the technological university.

A spokesman for the government health services organisation said three of the state facility’s workers had been infected outside, while the fourth is believed to have contracted the virus from one of them.

Authorities have decided to apply stricter rules regarding visits until Monday while suspending student internships until then.

Staff were also reminded to follow health and safety rules and notify authorities immediately if they have been deemed to be close contacts of a confirmed case.

The measures will remain in place until Monday while tracing teams track down all contacts and get a better picture of the situation at the hospital.

The situation will be reviewed depending on the results.
