A minute with Vasia Charalambides Photographer

Where do you live?
I live in Nicosia, Cyprus and I recently moved in with my best friend

What did you have for breakfast?
Oat pancakes with honey and berries

Describe your perfect day
Ideally an early start with some good music to set my mood for the day, as balancing your energy at the start of the day is essential. I mostly enjoy chilling at home so I would prefer staying indoors and working on my craft. For the evening I would go on Netflix and watch a documentary, either about animals or something educational.

Best book ever read?
The Power of Now. Firstly, and most importantly it has changed the way I think and the way I react to situations in life. It teaches you how the mind works and gives you small exercises to practice, which helps strengthen your mental health. It basically teaches you to live in the now.

Best childhood memory?
Roller skating in our garage while my dad was watching me. And another one is when my grandma used to dress me and my cousins up for the carnival. She would be so extra with the costumes making me feel like I was best dressed and had the best costume.

What is always in your fridge?
Water and ice. Always

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
Soul music, alternative r&b, Indie music. Fav Song: Nightrider by Tom Misch, Yussef Dayes, Freddie Gibbs

What’s your spirit animal?
Elephants. Despite their large size they are very gentle, calm and sensitive animals who can be aggressive when threatened.

What are you most proud of?
My self growth, pushing myself to get out of my comfort zone and securing a place in one of New York’s best photography schools, the International Center of Photography.

What movie scene has really stayed with you?
Can’t think of one movie scene, but I’ve recently watched the documentary My Octopus Teacher and a scene that stayed with me was when the octopus and the human finally formed a bond whereby the octopus was literally laying on the man’s chest comfortably.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
Henry Cartier Bresson. One of the most important and influential photographers in history.

If you could time travel when/where would you go?
I would go to New York City in the 1980s.

What is your greatest fear?
To not see myself where I’ve imagined myself.

What would you say to your 18-year-old self?
Stop being so angry with the world. What is for you will always find its way to you when you work hard and have a positive attitude. Trust the process.

Name the one thing that would stop you dating someone

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
Surround myself with my family and loved ones, have a party because well the world is ending so you gotta go out with a bang and tick off as many things as I physically can off my bucket list.
