Health authorities on Saturday announced 35 new coronavirus cases after 3,414 tests.

The total number of cases recorded since March has now reached 1,984.

The ministry once again urged people to adhere to health and safety measures as recent results showed that protocols had been ignored in many cases.

Out of the 35 cases, 14 are contacts of previously confirmed incidents. One of the cases is a contact of workers at a Nicosia facility whose cluster has now reached 11 people.

Fifteen other cases were detected by private laboratories. Three are footballers who arrived in Cyprus with the Czech national team for a friendly game with Cyprus. They were due to fly to Israel to play there.

Five other people come from the same company while one had recently travelled to the UK.

Another person who arrived from the UK earlier this month developed symptoms on Friday.

Two cases were detected by state hospitals. They are the parents of a child being treated in hospital and were tested so that they can be with it. The child has tested negative.

There is also one pupil from Limassol and a student at the technological university.

Two Syrian nationals hosted at a reception centre also tested positive.

Three people are being treated at Famagusta hospital and two are in the ICU at Nicosia general hospital
