A seminar on Algorithmic Transparency and the role of Education is organised by the Open University of Cyprus and the Pedagogical Institute.
Recognising the need to invest in the use of digital technology in education and the importance of teachers – and people in general – to acquire digital literacy skills, the Pedagogical Institute in collaboration with the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) organises a seminar, in the form of an interactive workshop, on Algorithmic Transparency and the role of Education. The seminar is addressed to teachers of secondary schools, secondary technical and vocational education & training and will be held on October 17 and 24 from 9am until 12pm at the Pedagogical Institute (PI) in Nicosia and on October 31, 2020 from 9am until 12pm at the PI branch in Limassol. Its topics include, among others, the importance of algorithms and how their use determines choices in human activities, the educational and social dimensions of algorithmic transparency, algorithmic processes resulting from the use of digital technology in education and the cultivation of critical thinking during internet use.
Speakers at the seminar, which is under the auspices of the Cyprus Centre for Algorithmic Transparency Research (CyCAT), based at the Open University of Cyprus and led by assistant professor Jahna Otterbacher, the educational sciences of the OUC and Miranda Christou, associate professor at the University of Cyprus.
