Stories inspired by the Covid pandemic

Cyprus Ped

The Cyprus Pedagogical Institute of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, in collaboration with the Cyprus Association of Children and Youth Books (CyBbY) is engaged in a project entitled Authors write and children illustrate small stories of hope and strength on the occasion of the Coronavirus.

As part of the project, writers wrote stories inspired by the coronavirus pandemic and isolation and these were posted on the CyBbY (www.cybby.org) and PIK (www.pi.ac.cy) websites. Then, the students of the schools illustrated the stories they chose and submitted their works, 1,015 in total, which were posted on the website of PIK. So far, the website has 7,654 views.

Then, a jury composed of representatives of the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, the directorates of primary, secondary schools and secondary schools for technical and vocational education and training, as well as the Cyprus Association of Children and Youth Books, judged the children’s works. For each story ten paintings were selected, while where the entries were less than ten these were all accepted.

During the next stage of the programme, a committee will select a number of illustrated stories, and then there will be a printed and digital edition of an anthology which will include them, in full coordination with the stories that have been illustrated by the children.
